The nonprofit organization presents evidence of strategic thinking through articulating the organization's mission.
All Things Women, Inc is a 501 c 3 organization established in 2018. Our Mission is to provide comprehensive Housing and supportive services to Michigan women, children, and families. Additionally, we deliver programming that will eliminate barriers and increase opportunities for a successful transition from homelessness to permanent Housing. Primarily the program aims to lend to the community programming and services designed to strengthen, encourage, and comfort those in need. To meet these goals, we hire competent staff, utilize community partnerships and resources, and collaborate with organizations that understand many people in our communities still face discrimination and injustice, live in poverty, and do not have access to the most basic needs to thrive.
ATW is a community-led nonprofit developed through collaboration with local women of color who came together in response to a lack of equitable opportunities, resources, and person-centered services in high-crime and poverty communities. This collaboration will plan, implement, and organize social and economic development opportunities by providing support, advocacy, and technical assistance to the communities we serve. Through this process, we intend to create an impact of change on communities that have historically not had access to equitable and affordable housing opportunities and disrupt the cycle of generational and situational poverty among women and children.
Many families we serve deal with the immediate ravages of poverty, lack of education, addiction, and mental illness. Every day our office answers frantic and somber calls that narrate stories of substance abuse and mental disorders that sometimes spiral into something worse or lead to homelessness. Yet, unfortunately, ATW and many of our sister organizations struggle to operate at our most remarkable capacity due to a lack of equitable funding opportunities for small nonprofits like ours.
ATW requests funding to continue our Mission of supporting gender-based violence victims, empowering all survivors, and implementing programs that advocate for the equitable mental and physical health treatment of black and brown families. In 2022, we recorded a 140% increase in calls from individuals seeking: Housing for women fleeing domestic violence, unhoused women with one or more minor children, needing food or clothing donations, financial and rental assistance, workshops, or training. Description of the community we serve includes:
• 90% African American.
• 5.5% Unemployment Rate (3.8% National Rate).
• 39.6% Poverty Rate (13.4 National Rate).
• $ 23,169 Median Income ($79,000 National Rate).
• a single individual leads 41% of Households.
ATW provides high-quality, culturally specific Supportive Housing in a state-of-the-art shelter that delivers programs designed to connect unhoused families with permanent Housing rapidly. Our holistic programs address Housing and food insecurities and prioritize delivering quality Transitional Housing and Community Living opportunities. These housing models provide essential resources, including healthy food, clothing, workforce training, mental health support, youth development programs, financial literacy, and education on money and credit. Our goal is to make women accountable for where they are in life and provide the tools, guidance, and support to elevate them to the best versions of themselves. We teach them they are NOT a product of their environment.
ATW operates a one-stop-shop approach in a mansion-style home in Detroit, Michigan. Our site allows for ten Transitional Housing beds; two family suites; a full kitchen; community space for training and workshops; a boutique-style area where individuals and families can shop for free food, clothing, supplies, furniture, diapers (baby supplies), and essential living resources. The first floor has administrative space for Case Management, community referrals, a meeting room, and a fourth-floor youth development space with computer stations, a play area, and private counseling offices. We are located directly across the street from the Durfee Innovation Society, which houses over thirty nonprofit and community resources.
This site also operates as a community space for four other women-of-color-led organizations who will also utilize our space: Bountiful Blessings (food, clothing, and resource support), Midwest Invitational Kids (youth development programs), Composetheway (women and youth programs) and Veteran Lives Matter. We also provide space for community initiatives that service Female Veterans, seniors, and youth aging out of foster care.
