A world with a more comprehensive awareness of the way land use intersects with the environment and our daily lives. Better planning. More rural preservation, better urban infrastructure, less suburbs and sprawl. #desuburbanize.

Goals

1. 1.We work to identify the needs of the communities we serve and to create new programs that support those needs. Ex: the TerraINscape aerial mapping/GIS program has evolved to confront Harmful Algal Blooms and wetland loss. These maps close state data gaps, allowing a movement from reactive observation to proactive land-use planning and securing protections for the Hudson and Delaware watersheds.
2. 2.We expanded our WaterInsight water quality monitoring network to the Wallkill River to combat the recurring harmful algal blooms and nutrient runoff. By deploying data loggers with autonomous sensors, and combined with lab testing, we expand infrastructure and replicate our advocacy framework, empowering residents with precision data that can also help enforce clean water regulatory compliance.
3. 3.We strengthen resilience by training citizen/community scientists. With rigorous instruction, safety gear, a quality assurance system, and a communication toolkit, we build a sustainable leadership pipeline. Volunteers become technical experts, expanding our capacity to democratize science and influence policy long-term.
