Our organization's members belong to various other animal welfare organizations with continuing education, webinars, and materials we use to educate our volunteers and the public. We recently became part of the data coalition with HASS for the homeless. We also have an animal-assisted intervention program that requires certification of the team members.
External Focus on Mobilizing Mission

OHS has a community cat outreach program, humane education program, and multiple other animal care programs like fostering and adoption, wildlife rehabilitation, trap-neuter-return, spay-neuter vouchers, special assistance and animal-assisted interventions that post regularly on social media platforms and educate the public. Our Pet Meals on Wheels program partners with community food banks.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
Our first notable change was that our board of directors meetings could not be attended in person. Obviously, this challenged social interaction and sharing, as well as business discussions and volunteer recruiting. We were able to implement and function with virtual board meetings that continue monthly today.
Several programs were adapted to meet the pandemic precautions and still serve our community. Two of our largest programs, Kitten Fostering and Adoption and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, were able to establish protocols to continue to rescue and rehabilitate animals. Foster established procedures for fosters, virtual pre-screening of applicants meeting the kittens, outside visitations, and no contact adoption applications, contracts and donations. The wildlife center could not train any new volunteers, but was one of the few rehabilitation centers in this area still accepting animals during the pandemic. While we were unable to fundraise by having community events, we used virtual volunteer hours to develop membership and fundraising platforms, reaching out to corporate donors, and helping the community by maintaining our info line and social media posts.
