Vision

Our vision is to create a more socially just world by providing books for free to children from under-resourced communities. Literacy attainment is directly tied to academic achievement and lifetime outcomes, yet children living in economically disadvantaged circumstances do not have the same access to books as their more affluent peers. Children’s Book Project is committed to closing the opportunity gap and lifting up our community by raising readers and ultimately paving the way for lifelong learning and literacy.

Goals

1. 1.Storytime promotes children’s literacy and book ownership with free elementary school class field trips at our Book Bank. Children interact with children's book authors and illustrators, receive art instruction, select free books and receive free art supplies to take home. Access to books is the most significant barrier to literacy; this program addresses that access barrier.
2. 2.Second Reading Program This program places thousands of free children’s books each year in neighborhoods with limited access to books to ensure that children in under-resourced neighborhoods can access and choose their own “for keeps” books. We build little books houses and keep them stocked in these neighborhoods.
3. 3.Our community liaison program identifies and stocks community organizations, such as public health clinics, with free books.
