When the pandemic hit, our concern for the poor and vulnerable compelled us to immediately launch our first-ever global emergency response, and the largest in our 70-year history. Our COVID-19 response in over 70 countries supported 51.1 million people, including 6.7 million people in the U.S. Read more about our response, including innovative ways we accessed isolated communities, in our annual review. In response to the unusual COVID work environment, World Vision focused on the wellbeing of employees while continuing to serve vulnerable families globally. We pivoted to remote work and equipped staff with the necessary support and flexibility to care for themselves, their families and their remote teams. We provided mental health resources, instituted several staff wellness days, instituted All Manager calls, and created a virtual parent and caregiver community hub. We implemented Chosen, a new and innovative child sponsorship approach where we empower children to choose their sponsor (read more at worldvision.org/chosen). During COVID, Chosen also gave our staff a new way to serve churches who were pivoting to virtual and hybrid services and struggling to engage their congregation. Chosen became an incredible experience to help boost engagement, connect people digitally, and inspire hope despite pandemic fatigue. Our team adapted several aspects of the Chosen experience, including: • Developing a virtual call between our field team and the church staff the week before their “Launch Weekend” to more personally connect the church with the field; • Creating an easy and inclusive sign-up experience for both in-person and virtual congregations; • Organizing a Facebook church group where congregants can celebrate and connect even if not physically together; • Working with our partners in the field to capture pictures and video of the “choosing party” to equip the church as they build excitement and connectedness leading into the Reveal Weekend.
