On September 16, a gunman opened fire at the Washington, D.C. Navy Yard leaving 12 people dead and others injured. If you want to help support the famiiles of those killed and hurt, then consider a donation to the highly-rated charities listed here rather than giving to one of the crowdfunding sites that have related funds. Although these funds appear quickly and satisfy our need for instant gratification, by and large, there is little to no vetting going on by the sites. There is no accountability. The folks receiving the funds can use the money for anything. So, even if they claim they are fundraising for a charitable need, like the Navy Yard shooting victims and families, there is nothing preventing them from taking a lavish vacation with the money.
