How Can My Charity Be Added To This List?

The requirements for our featured list are as follows:

  1. The charity has been rated by Charity Navigator and currently has a 3-star or 4-star rating.
  2. The charity is not on the CN Advisory List.
  3. The charity's website includes a description of the planned response and type of relief it is or will be providing (direct services, funding other organizations, etc)
  4. The charity's website provides clear instructions for how donors can designate their gift to this specific crisis.
  5. The charity's website includes clear language guaranteeing either
    • 100% of designated donations (this includes associated overhead expenses) will go to this particular crisis or
    • Should the charity raise fund in excess of what's needed to respond to this particular crisis, then the funds will be redirected to where the need is greatest*

If you are an employee at a charity that meets the criteria above and would like to be added to this list, please have your registered representative send a request to HotTopics @ If your charity hasn't established a representative or you don't know who it is, then submit your request using your work (not personal) email account and include your full contact information.

*Such charities leave the door open on their designated funds. In other words, they reserve the right to use some of the donations elsewhere depending on how this crisis and the fundraising effort unfold. This type of policy must be clearly communicated on a charity's website. For example: “If we receive more funds than needed, the additional will go to future disasters” or “10% of funds donated for specific emergencies go to our Emergency Reserves Fund.”
