Australia battles bushfires every year, however, few can recall a fire season as deadly or destructive as this one, with fires in all of Australia’s states. The fires have already claimed the lives of 34 individuals and, by some estimates, as many as 1 billion wild animals. Remote communities have been razed by the blazes, and millions of acres of wildlands have been torched.
People from around the world are offering their support to Australia and all those affected by these devastating fires. On social media, people are raising awareness of the destruction, while veteran California firefighters are lending support on the ground. As concern over the impact of these fires grows, donors from around the world are supporting organizations working with affected individuals and animals.
While it can be difficult to know exactly how to help, Charity Navigator believes donors can feel confident supporting these highly-rated organizations. All of the organizations featured in this list are headquartered in the United States and are working closely with partners on the ground to deliver aid and support where it is needed most. Charity Navigator will continue to add charities to this list as we learn of other organizations' efforts to provide support.
Interested in funding long-term recovery efforts for the communities affected by the fires? The Center for Disaster Philanthropy, a charity that has earned a 4-star Charity Navigator rating and is also a trusted philanthropic partner of Google and Facebook, has a Global Recovery Fund. This fund allows donors to give now to support recovery needs that will continue to surface long after the media’s coverage fades. Recovery for these devastating wildfires will take many years, if not generations.
Designated donations made from this page will be applied to charity programs per each charity's designation policies.
