Special Note: Only days after Typhoon Goni devastated an island of the Philippines, on November 11, the nation of islands was hit yet again with another typhoon -- Typhoon Vamco. This was the third typhoon in the region within weeks.  Philippine's capital, Manila, sustained extreme flooding and power outages. Although there are conflicting reports regarding the number of those who perished, at least 67 have died and a dozen were reported missing. After making landfall in the Philippines, Typhoon Vamco's expected path was projected towards Vietnam.

On Sunday, November 1, 2020, Super Typhoon Goni, or as it is being referred to in the Philippines -- Cyclone Rolly, the world's most powerful storm in four years, made landfall in the Philippines Catanduanes Island, home to more than 260,000 people.  Before reaching the island, peak winds were estimated at 195 mph, which is equivalent to those of a strong Category 5 hurricane.
The Filipino people were working towards recovery from two previous hurricanes over the past two weeks, though the damage from Goni was extensive.  Buildings and trees were destroyed, power lines for electricity were damaged, and flooding and mudslides devastated the island.  On Wednesday, November 4, it was learned that at least 24 people had reportedly lost their lives and over two dozen had been injured, with thousands displaced and homeless.  According to the Philippines' National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, two million people have been affected by the results of Super Typhoon Goni.
