In the early morning hours of June 24, 2021 in Surfside, Florida, located in Miami-Dade County, a large section of the Champlain Towers South condominium collapsed. The 136-unit residential highrise, built in the early 1980s, sat in total devastation. As of this writing, five days after the collapse, 12 people have lost their lives, and 149 remain missing. Over 800 responders from city, state, and local agencies, as well as foreign contingents, are assisting with the search and rescue effort.
