06/06/2014-06/01/2017: Moderate Concern Advisory

In accordance with our policy for removing CN Advisories, Charity Navigator removed the Moderate Concern CN Advisory for the Foundation for America's Homeless on June 1, 2017, because the CN Advisory has been in place for more than a year (since June 6, 2014).

Charity Navigator had published a Moderate Concern CN Advisory on the Foundation for America's Homeless because we became aware of the following information in connection with this charity:

  • On May, 13, 2014, WESH TV investigated the operations of Foundation for America's Homeless, in an article titled, "Charity refuses to show proof of housing homeless." For more information regarding the investigation, please see the WESH TV article.

On May 16, 2014, Matt Grant, reporter for WESH TV, forwarded an email Erin Gillespie, Press Secretary, Office of Commissioner Adam H. Putnam, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, to the Charity Navigator staff. This office is responsible for regulating charities in Florida. In the email, Ms. Gillespie confirms that the state of Florida has opened an investigation into The Foundation for America’s Homeless. Specifically, she says "we are investigating this charity. As you know from prior experience, our investigations take some time. Feel free to check back in, but we will not be able to provide an update until the investigation is complete."

On May 22, 2014, Ms. Gillespie confirmed, in writing, with the staff of Charity Navigator that the state of Florida is investigating the Foundation for America’s Homeless. For this reason, we have issued a Moderate Concern CN Advisory.
