Founded in 1983, Health Equity International is driven by the idea that health is the key to a society where every person can achieve her or his fullest potential. By showing what is possible in southern Haiti, it aims to be a model for providing high-quality, accessible healthcare in resource-poor places. HEI owns and operates St. Boniface Hospital, the only tertiary care center and referral hospital for the more than 2.3 million people in southern Haiti.
HEI's mission is to provide essential health services to the people of southern Haiti, especially the most vulnerable. We are committed to building a comprehensive, efficient, and resilient health system that provides high quality care. We believe that ensuring access to life-saving and life-changing health services is a critical component to building strong and productive communities.
Through SBH, a satellite clinic, and mobile clinics, HEI reaches more than 110,000 patients a year.
