Program Name: Crisis Services
Problem

When a young person knows there is a place they can go to speak with an adult they can trust, they are much more likely to reach out for help when they face a crisis. Unfortunately, only 60% of youth who need mental health care services actually receive them. According to the Center for Disease Control, suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth ages 10 to 24 – and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth are at a significantly higher risk.

Strategy

The Trevor Project combats suicide among LGBTQ youth by providing life-affirming and life-saving resources, including Trevor Lifeline, Trevor Chat, TrevorSpace, and TrevorText, as well as education, outreach, and advocacy resources.

IF:THEN

IF LGBTQ youth know there is a person they can trust, who they feel understands their identity and situation...

THEN they are more likely to reach out for help when they are in crisis

IF LGBTQ youth have a place to turn when they are in crisis, thereby decreasing their isolation...

THEN they are less likely to attempt suicide
