Impact Information

Classy created Progress to help nonprofits and social enterprises articulate their performance by combining qualitative insights on program strategies and beneficiaries, with quantitative metrics on social problems, short term outputs and long term intended outcomes.  Learn More about Impact Information.
Program Name: Law + Leadership
Problem

America incarcerates more youth than any country in the world. Research shows that 50% to 80% of incarcerated youth return to the system after their release. FLY’s youth are 93% youth of color and 80% male, living in high-crime, low-income areas—a populace more likely to be stopped, arrested, and/or detained by police.

Strategy

Designed by incarcerated youth, FLY's core programs engage at-risk and system-involved youth, first equipping them with knowledge about the law and encouraging a shift in perspective, and then offering continued intensive support one-on-one support to maximize growth and success. To reach our target population, FLY provides the Law Program in schools and neighborhoods with high concentrations of at-risk youth. Youth may then join Leadership Program to exit the system and get engaged in school.

IF:THEN

IF juvenile justice and at-risk youth participate in our legal education and life skills course (the Law Program) and then receive mentoring, case management, and leadership services (the Leadership Training Program)...

THEN they will engage with their education, exit the juvenile justice system, become positive community leaders, and change the trajectory of their lives.
