Special Olympics Rhode Island provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. The Special Olympics Rhode Island program provides over 1,600 year-round sports training and athletic competitions for more than 4,000 athletes and hosts over 40 local, regional, and statewide tournaments and competitions each year in 21 official and demonstration sports.
