2013-08 04/01/2015 --Donor Advisory

Prior to 9/1/2016, Charity Navigator issued Advisories under the name CN Watchlist and Donor Advisory. For more information on the CN Advisory system click here. This charity was issued a DA.

This donor advisory was published on Wednesday, April 1, 2015

In accordance with our policy for removing Donor Advisories, Charity Navigator removed the Donor Advisory for Barnabas Aid on April 1, 2016 because the Donor Advisory had been in place for a year (since April 2015) and because the issues that prompted the Donor Advisory have been resolved. Specifically:

Charity Navigator had published a Donor Advisory on Barnabas Aid  because we became aware of the following information in connection with this charity:

  • On February 27, 2015, World Magazine reported that "a British jury found Patrick Sookhdeo guilty of groping a female staffer and intimidating two witnesses." The article stated that "Patrick Sookhdeo has submitted his resignation for his posts as a trustee and the international director for Barnabas Aid International. Board member Julian Dobbs said the board has accepted Sookhdeo's resignation as a trustee, and is considering his resignation as international director of the organization." For more information, please see the World Magazine article.
  • On April 1, 2015, Barnabas Aid provided the following response:
    • "The head of the Barnabas Fund was found guilty of a single count of sexual touching and two counts of intimidating two witnesses in an English Court. Barnabas Fund had previously found the charges (brought by one employee over a single incident) without merit, following an internal investigation. The events took place in February 2014.  Dr. Sookhdeo has resigned from the Board of Barnabas Aid and is not serving as a Trustee.  Barnabas Aid was not before the Courts, nor was our important charity work of supporting minorities through aid and relief in over 60 countries."
