At Living Goods we empower people to improve the health of their families, friends and communities. Living Goods supports networks of ‘Avon-like' health entrepreneurs who go door to door to teach families how to improve their health and wealth and sell life-changing products such as simple treatments for malaria and diarrhea, safe delivery kits, fortified foods, clean cook stoves, water filters, and solar lights. By combining the best practices from business and public health, we are dramatically lowering child mortality AND creating livelihoods for thousands of enterprising women.

Program Name: Community Health Workers Program
Program Name: Community Health Workers Program

Note: The Impact & Results score currently has no effect on the nonprofit's Star Rating.

The Impact & Results score is a measure of how well a nonprofit delivers on its stated mission. To issue a score, Charity Navigator estimates the actual impact the nonprofit has on the lives of those it serves, and determines whether it is making good use of donor resources to achieve that impact. Learn more about our Impact & Results methodology here.

Program Activities
Living Goods trains women from local communities in Uganda to diagnose and treat malnutrition, infection and many common and life-threatening illnesses.
Impact Statement
$5,200 saves the life of a child.
Assessment Benchmark
Impact & Results scores of community health programs are based on the cost of a disability-adjusted life year (DALY) averted relative to the G.D.P. per capita of the country in which the program operates. Programs receive an Impact & Results score of 100 if they avert a DALY for less than than the G.D.P. per capita, and a score of 75 if they avert a DALY for less than three times G.D.P. per capita. If a nonprofit reports impact but doesn't meet the threshold for cost-effectiveness, it earns a score of 50.
Methodology
ImpactMatters analyzed publicly available data to rate the cost-effectiveness of Living Goods.
Data Source
Outcome data collected through a randomized controlled trial conducted by third-party evaluators Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab and Innovations for Poverty Action on the Living Goods program in Uganda.
Method for Attributing Outcomes
ImpactMatters used the randomized controlled trial's estimate of the counterfactual mortality rate in areas that were not exposed to Living Goods' intervention for the relevant period.
