Akshaya Patra means the unlimited bowl of abundance and sustenance. The organization began its operations in the year 2000 with serving 1,500 meals to a small group of local schools. With the vision to eliminate classroom hunger, Akshaya Patra has since scaled to serve over 1.76 million meals to children in 15,024 government schools across 12 States in India daily. Our Mid-day Meal program will reach 5 million children by 2025. In addition to our core mid-day meal program, we also provide breakfast and meals to 114,180 pregnant and lactating mothers and children between 0-5 years of age.
We are also scaling up other programs that address non-food related barriers to education. We provide financial relief to over 400 beneficiaries through our scholarship program and make infrastructure investments in our partner schools to create positive learning environments
