On September 4, 2020, it came to the attention of Charity Navigator that American Red Cross of Michigan is the subject of an investigation by The Michigan Department of the Attorney General according to a press release titled, "Attorney General Nessel Aims to Dissolve Fraudulent Organizations Posing as Charitable Nonprofits." This charity has received a Moderate Concern Advisory due to an open or pending investigation regarding allegations of possible illegal activity, improper conduct, organizational mismanagement, or other matters of concern.
