Official Charity Response

Our Assets to Liabilities ratio has increased from 3% or lower in the four previous years to 16% in 2014 precisely because of our financial success.

The Friends has just concluded a $7 million capital campaign, in which we reached our goal and provided over $7 million to the Saint Paul Public Library for complete renovation of two branch libraries and significant improvements to our central library.

Accounting rules require us to book future years’ pledges as assets.  In 2014, we recorded the remaining amount to be paid to the library as those pledges are collected as a liability.  That action significantly increased our Assets to Liabilities ratio.  That increased ratio does not indicate any increase in our financial risk.  It simply records our commitment to pass along collected pledge payments as they come in.

The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library continues to take great pride in its financial stewardship in the cause of stronger libraries for stronger communities.
