Prior to 9/1/2016, Charity Navigator issued Advisories under the name CN Watchlist and Donor Advisory. For more information on the CN Advisory system click here. This charity was issued a DA.

This donor advisory was published on Friday, November 30, 2012

In accordance with our policy for removing Donor Advisories, Charity Navigator removed the Donor Advisory for Woodruff Arts Center in November 2014 because the Donor Advisory was in place for more than one year (since November 30, 2012) and because the issue that prompted the Donor Advisory has been resolved. Specifically:

  • The charity filed an amended Form 990 for FY 2011 indicating accurately lowered revenue.
  • On their FY 2013 Form 990, the organization also reported new measures to safeguard against similar situations.

Charity Navigator had published a Donor Advisory for this charity because we became aware of the following information in connection with this charity:

  • On November 27, 2012, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that “an employee defrauded the city’s largest cultural organization [the Woodruff Arts Center] to the tune of $1.438 million over the last five years by submitting invoices for unrendered services.” The article noted that the charity “did not discover the fraud until the worker, employed since 2004, left at the end of October for reasons unrelated to the alleged embezzlement.” For more information, please see the article.
