Operation Kindness is a pioneer in North Texas for providing assistance to animals in need of medical care, companionship, and most of all, a home. Our mission is to care for homeless cats and dogs in a no-kill environment until each is adopted into responsible homes and to advocate humane values and behavior.

In addition to pet adoptions, we provide extensive medical care for our animals, a foster program, a pet food pantry, a surrender prevention program, education to pet parents, and volunteer opportunities. We believe in going above and beyond to give every animal the care and kindness they deserve.

Official Charity Response

Operation Kindness is proud to consistently earn high rankings from independent charity evaluators, including Charity Navigator. The change in our current rating is due to our ratio of Liabilities to Assets.

In 2019, Operation Kindness was in the middle of a $12M construction project to expand our lifesaving shelter.  As part of that construction agreement, a retainage amount is left unbilled until the end of the construction project.  This is to protect Operation Kindness by having leverage to get the project complete.  That retainage as of the end of the fiscal year 2019 was $188K.  In addition, we had a $360K invoice incurred in June, not invoiced till July.  That invoice has to be accrued as a liability.

The combination of those two liabilities pushed our ratio of liabilities to assets to 5.1%.  For Charity Navigator, a ratio of 5-20% gives you a score of 7.5.  Our previous score was 10 in this area. The anomaly changed our score to an 89.99, just .01 short of what is required for a 4-star rating. We look forward to achieving a 4-star rating next year.
