Results Information

Program Name: Second Chance Program
Problem

ASER results highlight the learning deficit among children between the age of 6 to 14. ASER 2014 reports that less than 50% children in grande V can read a grade II level text book. This problem is further compounded by the all pass policy of the Right to Education where all children until grade VIII are promoted irrespective of their learning achievement. The above and the lack of adequate number of middle school close to the homes of children lead to large scale dropouts, especially for girls.

Strategy

The strategy of the Second Chance Program is to achieve its main objective of helping school dropouts complete their secondary school by bringing education to the doorstep of the target group which is mainly girls and women. A large percentage of girls tend to drop out of school at an early age due to poor access of secondary schools.

IF:THEN

IF and by addressing issues of learning and accessibility through reaching out to both in-schools students and drop-outs, designing programs beginning from foundational skills, and providing support equivalent to education systems where formal systems do not exist or are not accessible....

THEN Then, providing understanding of concepts and good examination writing techniques along with newer and easier content facilitates girls especially, to complete secondary education. These core values are important and can be proven as replicable at reasonable cost to be used in the rest of the developing world.
