One of the most celebrated art museums in the country, the Walker Art Center (WAC) is known for commissioning and presenting innovative contemporary art; fostering the cross-pollination of the visual, performing, and media arts; and engaging diverse audiences in the excitement of the creative process. Founded in 1879, WAC has evolved from a small-scale, primarily regional institution into a major local, national, and international artistic resource. A 17-acre urban campus, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron, opened in spring 2005. The expanded facility features new galleries; education areas; a new 385-seat theater; street-level and roof-top terraces; plazas, gardens, and lounges; and increased services and amenities for visitors.

Historical CN Advisories

09/25/2018-11/01/2020: Moderate Concern Advisory

In accordance with our policy for removing CN Advisories, Charity Navigator removed the Moderate Concern CN Advisory for the Walker Art Center on November 1, 2020, because the CN Advisory has been in place for more than a year (since September 25, 2018).

Charity Navigator had published a Moderate Concern CN Advisory on Walker Art Center because we became aware of the following information in connection with this charity:

  • On September 7, 2018, KSTP reported on the charges of improper conduct allegedly taking place at Walker Art Center in an article titled, "Lawsuit Alleges Walker Arts Center Abuses Unfair Monopoly." For this reason, we have issued a Moderate Concern CN Advisory as the allegations have yet to be confirmed. For more information regarding this matter, please see the KSTP article.
