Impact Information

data icon Classy created Progress to help nonprofits and social enterprises articulate their performance by combining qualitative insights on program strategies and beneficiaries, with quantitative metrics on social problems, short term outputs and long term intended outcomes.
Program Name: New York Common Pantry
Problem

In low-income neighborhoods of New York City, 33% of families are unable to afford enough food to stay healthy. With cost of living rising steadily, many resort to cheap, unhealthy fast food options. This is a key reason poverty leads to illness and food provision services remain widespread. As a first line of defense against the effects of hunger and poverty, food pantries remain ideal places to provide nutritious food and resources free of cost to those in need.

Strategy

Through an integrated approach that combines food, social services and education, our community-based programs focus on underserved communities throughout New York City. It is this focus on the complete person, supported by data driven management and effective programs, which defines our method.

IF:THEN

IF we provide a whole person approach that achieves sustainable solutions to the causes of food insecurity and poverty through a combination of food distribution, case management focused on resource acquisition, and nutrition education,...

THEN we can reduce hunger throughout New York City while promoting dignity by reducing reliance by an additional 2% each year until 2022, ensuring that 80% of visitors are on a path to self-sufficiency.
