2011-06 05/13/2014 --Donor Advisory

Prior to 9/1/2016, Charity Navigator issued Advisories under the name CN Watchlist and Donor Advisory. For more information on the CN Advisory system click here. This charity was issued a DA.

This donor advisory was published on Tuesday, May 13, 2014

In accordance with our policy for removing Donor Advisories, Charity Navigator removed the Donor Advisory for California Center for the Arts, Escondido on July 1, 2014 because the Donor Advisory had been in place for more than a year (since May 13, 2014) and because the issues that prompted the Donor Advisory have been resolved. Specifically:

  • The organization filed two amended Forms 990 for FYs 2012 and 2013.

Charity Navigator had published a Donor Advisory for this  charity because we became aware of the following information in connection with this charity:

  • California Center for the Arts, Escondido had historically reported fundraising expenses on their Form 990.  But FY 2012 and 2013 Forms 990 listed no fundraising expenses. Based on our experience, charities only rarely are able to raise substantial sums of money without incurring any associated fundraising costs. We reached out to California Center for the Arts, Escondido for clarification, but did not received an adequate explanation. We were therefore unable to evaluate California Center for the Arts, Escondido and thus issued a Donor Advisory.
