Established in 1995, Food for Others obtains and distributes free food to the hungry of Northern Virginia and supports food programs of other community-based organizations. We provide a channel for people to help their neighbors by actively volunteering their service. Food for Others is part of Northern Virginia's safety net for those needing food when an emergency strikes, and for the growing number of working poor who are unable to make ends meet and need to supplement their inadequate food supplies.

This charity has an official representative registered with Charity Navigator.
Food for Others score changed from four stars to three because of a slight decline in programs. This decline was caused by two factors. The first factor was the change in the value of bulk food. Most of Food for Others program expenses are in the form of donated food. When the value of donated food set by Feeding America declines, the amount of money Food for Others "spends" on food programs declines as well. The value of a pound of food declined from $1.68 to $1.62. Second, Food for Others is an emergency social safety net and naturally sees lower demand for its services when there is a strong economy.
