As Africa shifts into the international spotlight as both the future home of the largest number of Christians and an ever-expanding opportunity for financial investment, African Leadership seeks to help local church leaders redefine the moral and cultural foundations that will shape society at the community level and reflect God’s kingdom at the international level. Through eroding the accessibility and affordability barriers to pastoral education in Africa, African Leadership aims to equip local leaders to rise up and meet this call by offering training courses in areas often overlooked by traditional education establishments and doing so for a modest fee or free of cost for students.

African Leadership believes in going a mile deep instead of a mile wide. The organization focuses its efforts in strategic communities, establishing meaningful and intentional relationships with local church leadership, and making it clear that long-term partnerships rather than short-term sponsorships are a central intention. Strengthening the local church to be the center of a community, elevating and serving existing church leaders so they can be recognized as core members of their community, pursuing innovative methods to get Biblical materials into the hands of those who need it, and maintaining a culture of consistent assessment are also strategies African Leadership employs to meet its mission.

A large continental network increases the capabilities of African Leadership drastically. While a main office is located in the United States, several Country Directors are located across Africa who oversee, manage, and report back on the progress and outcomes of students, teachers, and communities. African Leadership has held and continues to hold educational conferences bringing together this leadership to foster cross-country relationships and ensure that training materials are being conveyed accurately and in a manner that is relevant to the community each church serves. The U. S. office also plays heavily into organizational capabilities and is run by several internationally skilled staff members with specialized experience ranging from education to theology to community development.

African Leadership places a great importance on program assessment and monitoring and evaluation. A recent three-year assessment done in partnership with an independent and widely respected philanthropic research and analysis organization has laid the groundwork for continued valuation and improvement. The process revealed several key indicators and outcomes based on ensuring students successfully move from understanding to conviction to action in the course of their studies and are markedly improved in their church and community leadership roles upon graduation. Such indicators are designed to measure the following key outcomes: Pastor Transformation, Biblical Knowledge & Sound Exegesis, Biblical Communication, Leadership, Church Ministry Programs, Pastoral Care, Holistic Response to Community Needs, and Educational Aspiration.

Over the course of African Leadership’s 12 year existence, many milestones have been celebrated. The organization has graduated over 50,000 pastors spanning 23 different countries, has reached beyond sub-Saharan Africa into countries like Egypt and Liberia, and has developed and begun employing a Community Engagement Toolkit utilizing asset-based development techniques. Further, African Leadership has collaborated in over 100 relief and development projects through a variety of interventions including: the completion of 35 water solutions, the building of a library, computer lab, and dormitories for a school in the Kenyan slums, and the counseling and rehabilitation of over 2,220 individuals affected by HIV/AIDS in communities surrounding Nairobi, just to name a few.
