Official Charity Response

From FY 17 to 18, SAGE’s Charity Navigator rating went from 4 to 3.  Since our Accounting & Transparency rating was the same, the change is entirely due to a change in scores in the Financial area.  That seems to point squarely to changes in the Liability to Assets ratio.

The change in the liabilities to asset ratio is entirely due to the fact that SAGE purchased the floor of the condo office building housing its headquarters in New York City.  Thus, instead of paying rent, SAGE is paying down a mortgage as well as paying its monthly maintenance charges.  In addition, this also means that SAGE will no longer be subject to the constant upward push of New York’s rental market, and will be able to plan years ahead confidently knowing the cost of our primary headquarters will remain more or less constant.  Moreover, SAGE now owns an asset that will most likely appreciate in the New York real estate market.

SAGE believes this evidences excellent financial management..
