Friends of Mayanot Institute Inc.
Mission
The Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies aims to cultivate an awareness of Jewish identity and a passion for the Jewish future. This is accomplished through an institute of higher learning in Jerusalem, educational trips to Israel and social, cultural, social-action and religious events on campuses and in cities around the world. Our mission is to provide an education that is suitable for students with little prior knowledge of Jewish texts and to provide young adults with an education that places an emphasis on intellectually rigorous Jewish scholarship, combined with experiencing Israel and Jewish spirituality, in a nurturing and welcoming environment.
Vision
For over 25 years, the Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies has reached tens of thousands of Jewish students through innovative formal and informal education programs. Building a solid foundation of Jewish education, a new generation of young leaders proud of their Jewish identity, ready to respond to growing threats to Jewish continuity and to our homeland with renewed pride and a sense of empowerment. Mayanot has brought over 50,000 Birthright participants to Israel, since 2000, receiving the highest approval rating of any Birthright program. (Henrietta Szold Institute report) The Mayanot Men’s & Women’s learning programs help young Jews between the ages of 18 & 30 deepen their Jewish knowledge and commitment while developing their learning skills and mastery of traditional texts. Graduates of Mayanot have been active on 120 campuses and 190 communities worldwide, encouraging more young Jews to participate in Jewish life and taking a leading role in defending Israel on campus.
Goals
- 1.The new educational Mayanot World Center will be the foundation for building a new generation of Jewish leaders, empowering them with the knowledge and values to face the challenges of the future.
- 2.Nurture growth & learning for young Jews ; provide a haven for the lone soldier; and serve as an experiential learning center, reaching out to the community with a spectrum of programs.
