Free Arts NYC

Mission

Mission: Founded in 1997, Free Arts NYC empowers youth from underserved communities through art and mentoring programs to develop their creativity, confidence and skills to succeed. Free Arts is dedicated to leveling the playing field by providing access to high-quality, positive mentorship, grounded in transformative programming. Annually, Free Arts serves 1,000 youth across all five boroughs, coming from 40+ schools, community centers, Department of Homeless Services sites, and other social service agencies. Our youth reflect the diversity of the city, with the students in our programs self-identifying as: 51% LatinX, 30% Black/African-American, 6% Asian, 4% Caucasian, and 9% choose not to identify.

Vision

Free Arts NYC envisions a future where every young person—regardless of economic circumstance, background, or identity—has access to the transformative power of the arts. Through creativity, mentorship, and meaningful opportunities, youth build confidence, develop their voices, and gain the skills needed to pursue their aspirations. We are committed to expanding equity within the arts by connecting young people to mentors, professional networks, and creative career pathways. Grounded in respect, innovation, collaboration, and empowerment, Free Arts NYC works to cultivate a diverse and inclusive creative community where all young people can thrive and contribute their ideas, talents, and leadership to the cultural life of our society.
