League of Women Voters of Charlotte Mecklenburg

    Mission

The League of Women Voters of Charlotte Mecklenburg is a nonpartisan, all-volunteer organization with a mission to empower voters and defend democracy. Formed from the movement that secured the right to vote for women, the centerpiece of the League’s efforts remain to expand participation and give a voice to all Americans. We do this at all three levels of government, engaging in both broad educational efforts as well as advocacy. Our issues are grounded in our respected history of making democracy work for all Americans. The League of Women Voters has two separate and distinct roles: 1) Voter Service/Citizen Education: we present unbiased nonpartisan information about elections, the voting process, how local government works (through a Civics 101 Program for adults), how to research candidate positions on issues, and various related topics; and, 2) Action/Advocacy: we are nonpartisan, but, after study, we use our positions to advocate for or against particular policies in the public interest. Examples include: public education (for); women's healthcare (for) ; environment and sustainability (for); civics education for all (for) ; gerrymandering (against); election finance reform (for); and, diversity, equity and inclusion (for).
