The mission of Spindrift Images Foundation is to protect ocean wildlife and ecosystems. In 2025 Nick and Cheryl Dean founded Spindrift Images Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit, to amplify the impact of their documentary films produced through Spindrift Images, LLC. Working alongside a coalition of conservation NGO’s, Spindrift Images Foundation currently leads a campaign to save the North Atlantic right whale and defend key conservation laws. In September we kicked off our campaign with a screening of "The Right Whale: Tales of Resilience in Hope" on Capitol Hill to over 100 policymakers. This impact campaign leverages powerful storytelling to bring awareness of the threat these whales are facing, support science-based solutions, and convert public empathy for whales into meaningful action. Through targeted screenings, strategic outreach, and grassroots engagement, we’re advocating for whale-safe fisheries and protections for vital marine habitats in order to protect the remaining 370 North Atlantic right whales.

To receive a star rating, a charity must be a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) public charity. Private foundations, consolidated subsidiaries, and organizations with revoked or inactive IRS status are not eligible for a rating.
Eligible charities must also meet the following criteria:
