...   Finance & Accountability

Charity Navigator evaluates a nonprofit organization’s financial health including measures of stability, efficiency and sustainability. We also track accountability and transparency policies to ensure the good governance and integrity of the organization.

No Score

We have not issued this nonprofit an Finance & Accountability score. This does not indicate a positive or negative assessment, only that we have not reached a conclusion for the following reason:

This organization cannot be evaluated by our Encompass Rating methodology due to only having 2 years of electronically-filed IRS Form 990 data.

To ensure year-to-year consistency the Encompass Rating System’s Finance & Accountability beacon analyzes the three-year average of some data provided through the IRS 990.
Charity Navigator currently only has 2 years of consecutive e-filed Forms 990 from the IRS for Tahoe Prosperity Center under the EIN: 45-3559172.
Before Charity Navigator can evaluate this organization, Tahoe Prosperity Center will need to e-file for additional fiscal years.

...   Impact & Results

Charity Navigator assesses how well a nonprofit delivers on its mission. To issue an Impact & Results score, we estimate the actual impact a nonprofit has on the lives of those it serves, and determine whether it is making good use of donor resources to achieve that impact.

No Score

We have not issued this nonprofit an Impact & Results score. This does not indicate a positive or negative assessment, only that we have not reached a conclusion for one of the following reasons:

  • The nonprofit is eligible for a score, but we have not yet gotten to scoring it.

  • The nonprofit is eligible for a score, but we have not yet developed the specific algorithms to estimate the impact of the type of service it delivers and so cannot issue a score yet.

  • The nonprofit does not primarily deliver services directly to beneficiaries or it is not reasonable to expect the nonprofit to measure impact for its primary activity. The impact analysis framework that we use is not well suited to these nonprofits.

  • The nonprofit is not heavily reliant on individual donors because beneficiaries fund a majority of its costs or it does not receive any private charitable contributions.

What is your organization aiming to accomplish?

Our entire program of work involves the following key areas: • AlertTahoe – adding fire prevention cameras to strategic locations around the lake to protect Tahoe's communities from wildfire. (http://tahoeprosperity.org/alerttahoe/) • Community Revitalization - accelerating environmental redevelopment progress to get rid of the blight harming our environment and to encourage private investment in the region toward more thriving towns. (http://tahoeprosperity.org/community-revitalization/) • Connected Tahoe – expanding high speed internet and cell coverage in the region. (http://tahoeprosperity.org/connected-tahoe/) • Measuring for Prosperity – the only consolidated place to find Tahoe-specific community and economic indicator data. (http://tahoeprosperity.org/prosperity/) • Workforce Tahoe – implementing workforce development strategies that will help improve opportunities for local workers and for businesses to thrive. (http://tahoeprosperity.org/workforcetahoe/)

What are your strategies for making this happen?

Our goal is to unite the Tahoe Basin by working collaboratively, across boundaries, with a fresh innovative approach that focuses on accelerating positive change. We involve the community and its leaders when considering economic planning and policy making. We seek balance between environmental protection and environmentally sensitive redevelopment.

What are your organization's capabilities for doing this?

Our executive director has expertise in implementation of consensus-based solutions, which make her especially suited to the Tahoe Prosperity Center mission of uniting Tahoe's communities to strengthen regional prosperity. She has more than 25 years experience in public policy, communications and collaboration with non-profit organizations, businesses, academia and government agencies. Our board of directors represents every government jurisdiction in the Tahoe Basin, local business organizations, non-profit organizations, area colleges and schools as well as other non-profit groups. We have the right people at the table to ensure implementation of our strategies.

How will your organization know if you are making progress?

Annually updating our Measuring for Prosperity report is one area that shows whether progress is happening on many of these issues. Other ways we know we are succeeding is in the implementation of solutions that have been collaboratively developed - such as a Dig Once policy for broadband deployment, improved year-round job opportunities instead of seasonal, low-wage options and the acceleration of environmental redevelopment efforts to get rid of blight in the area.

What have and haven't you accomplished so far?

We are halfway through our effort to expand high speed internet and cell phone coverage in the region. There was no one organization focused on this until the Tahoe Prosperity Center began our Connected Tahoe project. We now have a few proposals by independent internet service providers to expand service into three regions previously underserved. We have a pilot project with the US Forest Service on expanded cell tower site locations. Next up is to adopt a Dig Once policy that allows conduit for broadband fiber under every public works project in the region. We have 3 more fire prevention cameras to install as part of AlertTahoe. We updated the Measuring for Prosperity report in 2015, but will continue to update with the most recent information as we can. We finished the Land Use Commodities Action Plan as part of our community revitalization efforts, but now need to accelerate the adoption of it with the local governments. And finally, we have interviewed over 500 local businesses about their workforce needs, but now need to analyze that data, talk to employees and employers in the region and determine priority solutions to help improve Tahoe's workforce issues.
