Vision

Turtles have been an integral component of the global ecosystem for 220 million years. Their evolutionary adaptation has enabled them to exist in terrestrial, fresh water and marine terrains. Currently, more than half of the 360 species are threatened with extinction, the highest rate of any sizable vertebrate group. This decline is due to destruction of wetlands, forested areas and open fields through increased real estate and land development, which has also been the cause of injuries to our turtle population. Turtles play a significant role in our world biomass and our region's biodiversity. Through education as well as our Rescue, Rehabilitation and Headstart Hatchling Nursery and Breeding Program we work to reverse the decline of our population and protect our natural environment. We envision a future in which the biodiversity of our region is respected and maintained and we can work together to protect the environment of our fragile planet for a brighter future for all.

Goals

1. 1.Reverse the decline of endangered turtles through incubation of eggs from injured females that arrive at our facility during the spring with release to native habitat at 1 year.
2. 2.Increase community presence through visits to centers and schools to educate and raise awareness of turtle ecology and environmental issues to ensure a healthy ecosystem and biodiversity.
3. 3.Collaborate with local wildlife organization to establish a more effective cross-community program to promote ecological sustainability. Expand volunteer program to reflect community diversity.
