Vision

Friends of Dog Mountain (FODM), founded in 2015, honors the legacy of artists Stephen & Gwen Huneck. We aim to preserve Dog Mountain, a 150-acre site with ponds, trails, and the Dog Chapel, as a national historic and artistic site. Our mission is to continue the Hunecks' vision of healing through nature, art, and pets. We recognize Dog Mountain as a unique destination for dog lovers, celebrating their bonds. Our goal is to maintain Stephen’s art, including his woodcut prints and Dog Chapel, for future generations to appreciate. We work with local entities to develop Dog Mountain, enhancing its role in St. Johnsbury and the Northeast Kingdom of VT’s community and creative economy.

Goals

1. 1.We aim to restore and enhance Dog Mountain as a public space that brings people, dogs, and art together as a place of healing, reflection, and celebration.
2. 2.Our vision is to share Stephen’s artistry, broaden its availability to the public, and eventually build an on-site museum and sponsor traveling shows and exhibits.
3. 3.With enhanced facilities and programming, we expect to have a positive impact on St. Johnsbury’s existing local economy and help stimulate additional entrepreneurial opportunities there.
