Global Health Promise
Mission
Global Health Promise advocates for and supports women in sex work and their children. We are specifically dedicated to helping pregnant teens who are trafficked and other mothers in sex work access quality maternal health care and the ability to give birth in a hospital, healthcare and education for their children, nutritious food, housing, and alternative sources of income.
Vision
Mothers who have been trafficked or who are in sex work are, first and foremost, mothers. And their children are just children, not “children of sex workers.” Together these mothers and their children are families. We base our programs on assisting the entire family impacted by trafficking and sex work to receive the help and services they need to be healthy and safe. Our vision is that all these families receive the support they need; our mission is to save these mothers and their children and help them achieve their aspirations.
Goals
- 1.Based on our research, we have seen that the vast majority of sexually exploited teens and mothers in sex work are at high risk of depression and suicide. To address their mental health needs, we want to work with our local partners to convene a monthly mental health support group facilitated by a trained counselor in the three countries where we work: Kenya, Uganda, and Nigeria.
- 2.We know there is a great unmet need for additional resources to help mothers in sex work and sexually exploited adolescents. We are hoping to get additional funding to scale up our existing programs in order to help more women and girls in Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda, the countries in which we are currently working.
- 3.We hope to increase the number of staff we currently employ in order to more effectively implement and monitor our programs. We have previously conducted site visits in Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda to monitor and evaluate our programs and their implementation, and we hope to conduct additional site visits with newer staff members so they can see the impact of our work first-hand.
