The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
As an organization we are adapting to be more sustainable in the face of climate change and increasing carbon emissions globally. We have set science-based emission reduction targets and have made changes to our travel SOP/practices to reduce our own carbon emissions via travel, inspiring and guiding emission reduction actions throughout the organization. We are installing solar panels, high efficiency heat pumps and other energy conservation improvements at over 100 TNC locations in the US and the Caribbean. Along with other internal sustainability actions, such as waste reduction, these actions will substantially reduce TNC's carbon footprint and help mitigate the rise of carbon emissions across the globe. Additionally, as we build up our organization to be more
thoughtful, representative, equitable, and inclusive, we have increased our investments in diversity, equity, and inclusion, developed metrics and data to find and address gaps, pivoted when we needed to adapt or change, and created The Nature Conservancy’s first-ever Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) Annual Report—including stories from our staff about community-based and led conservation, important partnerships internally and externally, our Employee Resource Groups, and what DEI means to individuals.
