Vision

The George C. Marshall Foundation will promote the values of selfless service, dedicated effort, and strength of character exemplified by Marshall’s life and leadership in war and peace and inspire new generations to follow his example as they face the challenges of the future.

Goals

1. 1.The Marshall Foundation is in the process of digitizing its manuscript collection—numbering some 2 million documents—over the next decade. Its first priority in this effort is to make high-quality digital images and assign metadata to the 205,000 items in the George C, Marshall papers.
2. 2.The George C. Marshall Foundation Teachers Institute is a specialized, week-long, residential professional development seminar for secondary school social studies teachers. The program—which has now completed its second year—focuses on the practical aspects of teaching history, with special emphasis on Marshall and his role in the defining events of the twentieth century.
3. 3.Since opening in 1964, the library has fostered use of its collections by scholars and the public. Staff regularly collaborates with area colleges—hosting students as interns and supporting research projects—and hosts the Teachers Institute. The library is also the nexus that brings speakers to Lexington to share their work with the public in our Legacy Lecture Series.
