Progress Texas Institute
Mission
The Progress Texas Institute provides research and strategic communications on issues with the ultimate goal of increasing civic engagement. Progress Texas Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We're a multimedia, public education organization specializing in cutting-edge digital campaigns that inform, engage, and empower progressive communities across the state.
Vision
As a non-profit media organization, our work seeks to inspire engagement in Gen X, millennial, and Gen Z Texans, and give voice to a growing majority of people, with the ultimate goal of leading to a more representative democracy. We work hard to bring humor and positivity to the political scene and give Texans reliable, timely info, with the progressive side of story. News can be overwhelming, and we keep voters energized about the big issues of the day. We’re building a statewide network of engaged, progressive activists — a community of informed, empowered, and mobilized Texans who are touched by and take action on a range of progressive issues. Progress Texas and PTI resolves, both internally and through our media, to encompass and advocate for all Texans’ identities and experiences. This work extends to our staff, which includes members in rural areas like Brewster and Brazos County, and to our PTI Board of Directors, 75% of whom are Black, Indigenous, or People of Color.
Goals
- 1.We want to increase ballot access through voter education. Our helpful GoVoteTexas.org website assists voters in navigating election deadlines, polling locations, and the current status of the state’s changing voter ID laws — now available in five of Texas’ top ten languages — with translations in Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, English, and Spanish!
- 2.We have invested in building the most robust progressive social media presence in Texas. We incorporate an expanding podcast network, video, graphics, blogs, and traditional media into a feed that informs and inspires. Through these pages we are able to reach millions of Texans with smart, funny, and hard hitting content that stands out from the rest of the clutter online.
- 3.PTI designs and promotes uniquely compelling digital content and actions, employing topics such as climate, healthcare, and voting rights to educate, motivate, and broaden our base of grassroots digital activists. The messages and visuals we incorporate are crafted to grab people’s attention, and to break through the noise.
