Finance & Accountability Score

Not currently scored

This organization cannot be evaluated by our Encompass Rating methodology due to only having one year of electronically-filed IRS Form 990 data. But please note, that the IRS is significantly delayed in processing nonprofit's annual tax filings. That may mean that this entity has electronically filed additional Forms 990 but they have yet to be processed and made public by the IRS.

To ensure year-to-year consistency the Encompass Rating System's Finance & Accountability beacon analyzes the three-year average of some data provided through the IRS 990.
Charity Navigator currently only has one year of consecutive e-filed Forms 990 from the IRS for Hearing the Call Inc. under the EIN: 81-1565210.
Before Charity Navigator can evaluate this organization, Hearing the Call Inc. will need to e-file for additional fiscal years.

Note: The absence of a score does not indicate a positive or negative assessment, it only indicates that we have not yet evaluated this organization.

Pandemic Response

Due to the unprecedented nature of the pandemic, we give charities such as this one the opportunity to share the story of COVID's impact on them. Charities may submit their own pandemic responses through their nonprofit portal.

Hearing the Call Inc. reported being impacted by COVID-19 in the following ways:
  • Program Delivery

  • Fundraising Capacity

How COVID-19 impacted the organization's operations financially:

Donations were down 55% in 2020 compared to 2019 mainly because a large portion of our fundraising came from benefit concerts. Due to COVID restrictions, we had to pause our main fundraising platform.

How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:

COVID-19 put our largest program on hold - international humanitarian trips. Logistics were frozen as we were unable to plan for international travel, clinic setup, and clinic operation. We worked diligently to supply our partners overseas with needed materials so they could maintain limited patient hearing healthcare in our absence. Additionally, smaller national humanitarian days were developed and conducted with high levels of COVID-19 safety protocols.

How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:

We shifted resources from international work to more local work. We attempted the concept of an online virtual concert fundraiser. We shifted from doing big concerts to working on quarterly newsletters to connect with donors.

Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:

National humanitarian days were developed as a direct result of not being able to travel internationally. Two years after the pandemic began, our current efforts to work in both national and international humanitarian hearing healthcare are equally supported. We will continue the raised level of hearing humanitarian work in the United States and the Hearing the Call Quarterly Newsletters.
