Project Expedite Justice
Mission
PEJ uses all available legal options to seek justice for individuals who are inadequately protected under the law, who cannot access legal resources, and who are exploited by governments, corporations, or others. We assist victims of atrocity crimes in seeking justice through all available legal mechanisms. We ensure that the fundamental protections articulated in national, regional, and international human rights law are actualized in practice. We aim to strengthen the capacity of domestic legal actors, including judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and investigators, to apply international human rights and humanitarian law in domestic mechanisms. We advance accountability for atrocities, serious human rights violations, and related State and corporate abuses.
Vision
PEJ envisions a global landscape where legal systems, national, regional, and international, are equipped, independent, and responsive in the face of atrocity crimes. This vision is rooted in the understanding that impunity thrives where justice systems are under-resourced, politically compromised, or disconnected from the needs of affected communities. We believe that justice becomes possible when local actors, judges, lawyers, investigators, and civil society have the tools, training, and protections to act. At PEJ, we focus on building legal capacity, supporting victim-centered documentation, and connecting national efforts to international accountability pathways. By targeting the structural drivers of impunity and strengthening the role of domestic actors in legal responses, we help ensure that accountability mechanisms function reliably and in line with established legal standards.
Goals
- 1.PEJ seeks to expand access to PEJ’s victim-centered accountability model in conflict-affected regions by scaling strategic litigation, frontline legal support, and local partnerships to meet the growing demand for credible documentation and accountability.
- 2.To meet rising operational demands and sustain impact in complex environments, PEJ will invest in organizational systems, staff development, and digital infrastructure to strengthen coordination, improve organizational metrics tracking, and scale its end-to-end legal accountability model effectively.
- 3.PEJ will deepen its global and regional advocacy to advance survivor-centered justice by leveraging strategic communications, legal findings, and partnerships to influence accountability mechanisms, support civil society, and spotlight impunity in conflict zones.
