The nonprofit organization presents evidence of strategic thinking through articulating the organization's mission.
Bluemont Sanctuary is a 501©3 Non-Profit Organization that provides permanent residence to at risk, neglected, and forgotten animals. What started with a single horse needing a second chance at life, without the expectation of performance or work, has grown into over 40 equines (horses, donkeys, and ponies), who have been saved from slaughter, neglect, and abuse. Bluemont Sanctuary has also expanded into other programs, such as housing barn cats, goats, and chickens.
The mission of our organization is one of permanence. Every rescue that walks onto our sanctuary stays with us for life. Regardless of an animal’s age or medical conditions, the goal is to provide each one with a soft landing, which includes acres to roam, plenty of hay to eat, consistent and ongoing supplementary and medical care to ensure optimal health, and a herd family to call their own.
Bluemont Sanctuary is home to several bonded pairs, as well as mothers and babies, who live their lives together in safety. Under this model, every animal gets to live as naturally as possible and will never be adopted out, ridden, or used in any way.
In addition to caring for the animals at Bluemont, the sanctuary also aims to affect change outside of its walls. We aim to both advocate and educate through a number of speaking forums, community partnerships, and education via social media to our over 80k followers. We also consult, advise, and help network those people who are looking to rescue an animal of their own or conversely, are looking to place an animal due to their circumstances.
Furthermore, we work with other sanctuaries, as well as law enforcement, on large neglect cases, both locally and nationally. Over the last few years, Bluemont Sanctuary has helped home over 300 animals through those scenarios.
Today, Bluemont Sanctuary has over 80 resident animals and over 60 volunteers. Within these volunteers, there are many veterans and first responders who not only help the animals of Bluemont but find peace for themselves at the sanctuary. Bluemont Sanctuary also partners with Operation Hope. Operation Hope helps those in need through equine therapy sessions tailored to veterans, first responders, and children. Their sessions consist of unridden and pure natural interactions between people and horses, such as grooming, giving treats, and simply being together. Bluemont Sanctuary is proud to partner with another organization in Operation Hope, providing access to the sanctuary and its animals for the betterment of the community.
We encourage you to learn more about our animals and our mission through social media, where we post stories and educational content consistently. https://www.instagram.com/bluemontequinesanctuary/?hl=en
