The City of Memphis Pipe Band is a traditional bagpipe and drum band dedicated to the preservation and growth of the Celtic arts here in the Mid-South. With over 30 years of experience, our members have performed in Memphis at countless community events as well as events throughout the United States. (Less)

We provide outreach to local schools, community centers, and cultural events to showcase our music and promote our organization. The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
Founded in 2020, the Memphis Pipe Band found ourselves facing a daunting challenge in the wake of the pandemic. As restrictions on public gatherings were put in place, the band had to quickly adapt to the changing landscape if we wanted to continue making music and bringing joy and education to our community. The first step was to move our practices online. Using video conferencing software, the band members were able to continue practicing their music and staying connected with each other. Though it was not the same as playing together in person, the virtual practices allowed us to maintain our skills and stay focused on our goals. As the months wore on and it became clear that in-person performances would be unlikely for some time, the band began to explore other ways to share our music with the world. We started recording videos of ourselves playing and posting them on social media, allowing fans to enjoy our music from the safety of their own homes. The band also began to experiment with new types of performances. We organized a outdoor concerts, where we played for spread out events of people who had gathered for graduations, church services and more. We also started performing for virtual events, such as competitions and talent shows, which allowed us to reach a wider audience than ever before. Throughout this challenging time, the Memphis Pipe Band remained committed to our craft and to each other. We found new ways to connect and to share our music with the world, proving that even in the face of adversity, the power of music can bring people together. And as the world slowly begins to return to normal, the band is ready and eager to take the stage once again, stronger and more resilient than ever before.
