Black Directors Health Equity Agenda Inc.
Mission
The Black Directors Health Equity Agenda (BDHEA) brings together board directors and executives from across the health ecosystem alongside medical and business leaders, policy-makers, and health-focused organizations to drive meaningful, measurable progress toward health equity. BDHEA fulfills this mission through five core action areas. First, the organization works to articulate the business case for addressing health disparities that disproportionately impact Black and marginalized communities and individuals, demonstrating that health equity is both a moral imperative and a strategic priority. Second, BDHEA actively works to ensure equitable access to healthcare by influencing governance and institutional decision-making at the highest levels of health organizations. Third, BDHEA fosters collaboration among top health organizations to share best practices, leverage synergies, and accelerate collective impact. Fourth, the organization addresses the social determinants of health — including housing, education, economic opportunity, and environment — through meaningful, practical programs designed to create real-world change in the communities most affected by health inequities. Fifth, BDHEA advocates for long-term, positive systemic impact through informed policy and reformed institutional practices. Together, these efforts position BDHEA as a trusted convener, educator, and translator of data that represents and impacts underserved communities across the nation.
Vision
The Black Directors Health Equity Agenda (BDHEA) envisions a society where race, economics, and geography no longer determine health outcomes. Lasting change demands structural transformation within the institutions that govern health in America. BDHEA believes that embedding the business case for health equity into governance, clinical strategy, and decision-making across the health ecosystem will establish continuous, accountable action to eliminate health inequities. Health disparities are not inevitable — they result from systemic failures that can be addressed when board directors, executives, and institutional leaders are equipped, engaged, and held accountable. BDHEA’s vision is a future where every individual, regardless of background, zip code, or economic circumstance, has an equal opportunity to live a healthy life.
Goals
- 1.Advance health equity by influencing corporate and policy leaders and expanding direct support programs to reduce racial and socioeconomic disparities, so health outcomes are not determined by skin color, geography, income, or gender.
- 2.Preeminent Convener: National Summits unite directors, executives, policymakers and community leaders to turn health equity into measurable action. • Governance Tools: Expand widely adopted Playbooks (1,600+ downloads) to FQHCs, community health centers, and public hospitals. • Clinical Steering Council: Experts prioritize key conditions to reduce disparities and advance Black community health.
- 3.Investment in BDHEA strengthens the financial, managerial, and technical capacity needed to execute strategic priorities, expand stakeholder engagement, and deliver scalable health equity solutions that influence policy, organizational practice, and community outcomes.
